\u201cTime to turn the page,\u201d was the watchword last week for friend and foe alike, after a court ruled, Dec. 17, that Mayor Marc Demers was indeed eligible to run in last November\u2019s municipal election. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor all of 2014 the legal battle of whether the mayor was eligible or not was a monkey on our back and on all citizens\u2019 backs,\u201d Laval executive committee vice-chair told The Suburban<\/i> in welcoming the decision. \u201cObviously the mayor of Laval was within his rights to run for mayor.\u201d <\/p>\n

But while that chapter closed in time for Christmas, a new chapter might open next month, if Jacques Foucher, who filed the lawsuit, appeals the decision. <\/p>\n

Foucher\u2019s beef is that the municipal elections act currently requires Elections Quebec to take candidates on their word that they\u2019re eligible. <\/p>\n

Chomedey Councillor Agla\u00efa Revelakis, who leads the Action Laval opposition caucus on city council told The Suburban<\/i> that, \u201cWe will have time during the Christmas holidays to reflect and assess what else is to be done, based on our discussions with our lawyers.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIn the meantime we will, of course, respect the judgment of the court and we have to move on,\u201d she said in an interview. \u201cWe have to move forward for all Laval citizens.\u201d
