Laval police are urging citizens to be
\ncautious about flaunting their smartphones or iPods, after two robberies last
\nweek.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Sept 3, a teenager was attacked
\nfrom behind in Parc du sablon,<\/i> on 4th avenue, in Chomedey,\u201d said police
\nspokeswoman Const. Nathalie Lorrain.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were four attackers\u2014four men
\nand a woman, all of whom appeared to
\nbe of middle eastern origin.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey pushed the young man to the
\nground and tried to steal his iPod. The
\nsuspects, who appeared to be in their late teens or early twenties, then fled in
\na gray minivan.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\u201cThen, on Sept. 7, around 7:30 p.m.,
\ntwo black suspects aged about 20 threatened two people in Parc des prairies in
\nLaval des Rapides,\u201d Const. Lorrain continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey showed them what was probably a fake gun and demanded their backpack and cellular phones, which they
\nhanded over. The suspects then fled on
\nfoot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the suspects had a tattoo on
\nhis right arm with the number 1996,\u201d
\nshe added, \u201cand both wore hoodies and
\ncovered their faces with scarves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Const. Lorrain said that there had been a spate of these attacks earlier this
\nyear at bus stops and in Metro stations
\nand speculated that they might have
\nbegun to recur with the start of the new
\nschool year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n\u201cMembers of the public should be
\ncareful not display these devices conspicuously, \u201c she said. \u201cDon\u2019t keep them
\nin your hand or show that you have it on
\nyou, because it can invite these sorts of
\nattacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

She urged members of the public who
\nmight be able to help identify the perpetrators to call the Laval police hotline
\n[450] 662-INFO (662-4636), and said
\nthat people can leave tips anonymously,
