Newly elected Fabre representative
\nGilles Ouimet is looking forward to championing Laval\u2019s interests in Quebec City
\n\u201cas quickly as possible, in order to start
\ndeveloping and improving public services
\nsuch as health, education and the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouimet told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview that Laval Liberal party candidates
\ndecided to work as a team during the election campaign. It worked so well, he said, that the four elected Liberal members plan
\nto continue to pool their efforts on the
\nisland city\u2019s behalf.<\/div>\n

\n
\n\u201cWe will definitely remain on that
\ntrack,\u201d he vowed, \u201cand we will also work
\nwith the two other [Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois] members, L\u00e9o Bureau-Blouin, from Laval des
\nRapides and Suzanne Proulx, from Sainte
\nRose, for the benefit of all Laval residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouimet underscored the importance of
\nperpetuating longstanding efforts to
\nincrease the range of services provided at
\nthe Cite de la sant\u00e9<\/i> regional superhospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to ensure that the people of Laval can get medical services in Laval.
\nWe\u2019ve already introduced oncology and
\ncardiovascular treatment centres here,\u201d he
\nemphasized, \u201cand we need to keep building
\non that.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

\n
\nOuimet noted that new schools are also
\na priority, due to Laval\u2019s burgeoning youth
\npopulation.<\/p>\n

\u201cA new primary school in Fabreville is
\nalready in the works,\u201d he observed, \u201cand
\nsoon we\u2019ll need to do the same thing in the
\nSainte Doroth\u00e9e area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouimet said that he sees mass transit as
\nan important means to safeguard the
\nenvironment. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe will be watching closely to see how the Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois will act on this front,\u201d he promised. \u201cThe train linking Oka with St.
\nBruno is supposed to pass through Fabre.
\nThese issues are important to the citizens
\nin my riding.\u201d\n<\/div>\n

\n\u201cMy colleagues feel the same way,\u201d
\nOuimet continued. \u201cIt is our responsibility to make this parliament work in best interests of Quebec in general and Laval
\nin particular.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nHe said that after 25 years as a criminal
\nlawyer\u2014and, until last year, batonnier of the Quebec bar association<\/a>\u2014politics was
\nnew to him. He added that running for
\npublic office proved quite a moving experience, particularly the encouragement
\nthat he received from members of the
\nFabre Liberal riding association.\n<\/div>\n

\n\u201cBesides thanking all of them for their
\nsupport, I want to salute the riding\u2019s
