\u201cThis morning we are facing a surge
\nof allegations, rumours and demands,\u201d
\nthe popular mayor, first elected 23
\nyears ago, said in a statement, Oct. 5.<\/p>\n
\u201cI won’t be resigning,\u201d Vaillancourt
\nvowed, \u201cnor will I comment on the
\nrumours and various allegations being
\nmade.\u201d<\/p>\n
He expressed shock and dismay at
\nthe intrusion, but pledged that he and
\nthe municipal administration will give
\npolice their full cooperation.<\/p>\n
He added that he would not speculate as to the reasons why police conducted the operation \u201cbecause I don’t
