{"id":2300,"date":"2012-10-24T19:29:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-24T19:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2012\/10\/24\/west-island-homes-feted-for-excellence\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:42:00","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:42:00","slug":"west-island-homes-feted-for-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/24\/west-island-homes-feted-for-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"West Island homes f\u00eated for excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Heritage Emeritus Award<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Four residences in Pierrefonds, Pointe Claire, Beaconsfield&nbsp;and Dorval have been singled out by Operation Architectural Heritage Montreal&nbsp;for their high quality of&nbsp;maintenance and restoration.<\/p>\n<p>The homes that garnered the 2012 Heritage Emeritus Award&nbsp;were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>265 Acorn Ridge, Beaconsfield<\/b><\/li>\n<p>Designed by Rosen-Caruso to reflect modern 1960s architecture, with simple shapes and volumes, the interplay of materials and inner court design and visibly well maintained.<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>5 Fortier, Pierrefonds<\/b><\/li>\n<p>Built in 1969 to the original owner\u2019s specifications featuring a stucco fa\u00e7ade with stone inserts, sash windows with integrated grills and a wood front door, this property has been kept in good condition through sustained maintenance.<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>14 Waverly, Pointe Claire<\/b><\/li>\n<p>Built in 1952, this red brick bungalow has retained its simple style and most of its original architectural elements, including wood windows and shutters, as well as an arched front door with decorative woodwork reflecting the owners\u2019 commitment to preserving original components and materials.<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>1895 Lakeshore, Dorval<\/b><\/li>\n<p>With its clapboard covering and impressive stone chimney, this 1950 single-family home stood out for its original architectural characteristics and exemplary maintenance.<\/ul>\n<p>\nAccording to City&nbsp;of Montreal spokeswoman Andr\u00e9e Pelletier, the&nbsp;Heritage Emeritus Award&nbsp;started 22 years ago, when downtown Montreal was infamous for its poor&nbsp;housing&nbsp;stock and empty spaces between buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes time to sensitize people and change their&nbsp;mentality,\u201d she recalled. \u201cThe prize was inaugurated to highlight the advantage&nbsp;of taking good care of your house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not a contest or about renovations,\u201d Pelletier&nbsp;explained. \u201cIt\u2019s meant to recognize ordinary people who are passionate about&nbsp;maintaining their home as well as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Initially limited to City of Montreal residents, about five&nbsp;years ago, the awards were extended to other cities on Montreal Island,&nbsp;including several West Island municipalities,&nbsp;whose town planning departments&nbsp;nominate deserving homeowners for their well-kept houses.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;
