The event was coordinated by Rob Myerson, the Social Studies and leadership program director and Keith Mills, the planning room technician, as an alternate to the traditional school Winterfest. <\/p>\n
Events included a fun hockey game at the Dollard des Ormeaux arena, against 94.7 Hits FM, where 400 students attended. Mark Nixon is a former student of Riverdale who, upon graduation, suffered an accident that saw him paralyzed from the waist down. He provided an inspirational talk to motivate students to persevere, despite difficult odds. Beno\u00eet Langevin of AJOI spoke of the homelessness in the West Island; the John Abbott theater group discussed self-esteem, respect and sexual consent and Vivianne Briand of student services at the Lester B. Pearson School board answered questions about the board. <\/p>\n
\u201cI had the idea to speak to the kids about what is it that really shapes us and how the kids could live a bit more positively; along with activating the belief level in themselves to understand they can do whatever they put their minds to. It comes down to them at the end of the day and will they take an active role in their lives or just go along for the ride,\u201d Nixon told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n
\u201cWe were fortunate to have many on hand this afternoon with a wealth of information to share with students about services on the West Island,\u201d said Mills. <\/p>\n
Riverdale High School (RHS) is an English language secondary school located in Pierrefonds, Quebec. It was founded in 1964 and is part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board where it is designated a \u201ccommunity school.\u201d <\/p>\n
