Laval police dossier: head-on collisions, midnight fusillade<\/i><\/b>

Laval police intervened in a case of crooks vs. crooks, Nov. 1, after Vimont-Auteuil district residents phoned 911 at 4:45 p.m. to report that two suspects were breaking into a residence on Paradis Street. <\/p>\n

\u201cBefore peace officers arrived on the scene, they witnessed the suspects leaving, carrying marijuana plants,\u201d Const. Franco di Genova told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview. <\/p>\n

\u201cBecause the house had to be secured in the wake of the breaking and entering crime, officers had to enter the premises, where they found about 100 mature marijuana plants, worth $1,000 each,\u201d Const. di Genova explained, \u201cas well as $30,000-$50,000 worth of hydroponic equipment and plant-growth light fixtures.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n
\u201cThe Laval police drug squad subsequently obtained warrants to seize everything,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n

Two deadly head-on collisions <\/b>
\n
<\/b>
\nA 26-year-old died from injuries that he suffered during a collision at 3:30 a.m., Nov. 10, after his minivan strayed from its lane on Marcel Villeneuve Boulevard and struck an eastbound Nissan Sentra, head- on. <\/p>\n

The Sentra\u2019s 30-year-old driver remains in Sacr\u00e9 C\u0153ur Hospital, with multiple fractures and serious internal injuries. <\/p>\n

\u201cPolice are investigating whether this fatal collision might have been caused by excessive speed and consumption of alcohol,\u201d said Const. di Genova. <\/p>\n

Then, at 4 a.m., Nov. 18, a 2000 Honda Civic carrying four youths left the eastbound lane of Ste. Rose Boulevard, about one kilometer west of Highway 15.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u201cIt struck a 17-year-old driving a motor scooter and came to a stop 200 feet down the road,\u201d Const. di Genova reported. \u201cAn Urgences Sant\u00e9 doctor declared the teen dead on the scene.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cThe driver of the car, 21, and a teenaged passenger we taken by ambulance to hospital, where they were treated for shock and released,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe driver was charged with criminal negligence causing death.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAlcohol was not a factor,\u201d Const. di Genova added, \u201chowever, everything else will be looked into.\u201d <\/p>\n

Police will continue their investigation during coming weeks before they report their findings to Crown prosecutors, who will then determine whether or not to amend the accusation.\u201d <\/p>\n

Attempted murder?<\/b><\/p>\n

Near midnight, Nov. 19, residents called 911 to report that they had heard gunshots at 417 \u00c9tienne Lavois, in Sainte Doroth\u00e9e. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe first officers to arrive on the scene noticed several bullet holes in the window of a condominium on the main floor,\u201d said Const. di Genova. \u201cAfter no one answered the doorbell, they kicked the door in and found no one inside.\u201d <\/p>\n

Police subsequently located the 26-year-old owner of the premises and, at the time when this week\u2019s edition of The Suburban<\/i> went to press, investigators were in the midst of interviewing her about the incident. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe is not known to us and there is nothing extraordinary about her,\u201d assured Const. di Genova. \u201cInvestigators will be looking into whether it might be a case of a mistaken address.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
