Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Laval<\/a> announced, Nov. 30, that it will increase fares next year. Starting Jan 1, prices will rise by an average of 2.4 percent, although cash fares will remain frozen at $3 per person and $1 on smog days. <\/p>\n

From July 1 until Labour Day, each fare-paying adult will also be allowed to bring up to five children aged 11 and under along for the ride at no additional charge. <\/p>\n

The Laval transit authority said in a statement that it aims to boost the number of people who use the Laval public transit system by 4.2 percent. To accomplish this, it is contemplating having the city designate reserved lanes for buses along a number of urban arteries. <\/p>\n

STL also announced that it is taking a second look at its plans to install a gondola transit service, after the city announced its intention to shift the location where the Place Bell arena will be constructed adjacent to the Montmorency metro station. <\/p>\n

The bus company also waxed eloquent about its plans to protect the environment. It said that it plans to subject its new all-electric bus prototype \u201cto a battery of tests\u201d. STL also declared that from 2014 onward, it will only purchase more fuel-efficient hybrid diesel-electric buses. <\/p>\n

In addition, the number of buses available outside rush hour, evenings and weekends has been increased along 12 routes. <\/p>\n

In its statement, STL claimed to have delivered an on-time performance of 92 percent.<\/p>\n
