Thirteen Laval les \u00celes riding residents received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal, Feb. 2. <\/p>\n

Member of Parliament Fran\u00e7ois Pilon<\/b> officially presented the medal during a colourful morning ceremony at Laval’s city council chamber.<\/p>\n

The honoured included George Bacoyannis<\/b> (service to the Laval English-speaking community), Gis\u00e8le Balthazard<\/b> (Les Lames d’argent figure skating club founder), Francine Gauthier<\/b> (30 years Loisirs de Laval Ouest), Carole Giroux<\/b> (Club des Petits d\u00e9jeuners), Florence Landry<\/b> (60 years in municipal politics), Carmen Lanoue<\/b> (Development and Peace), Elizabeth McLeod<\/b> (service to the needy in Laval’s English-speaking community), Andr\u00e9 Ouellet<\/b> (25 years the voice of Les Canadiens’ national anthem), Guy Ouellette<\/b> (30 years public service as a policeman and politician), Sergeant Gabrielle Roselli<\/b> (12 years Canadian Army, including service in the former Yugoslavia), Lise Sen\u00e9cal<\/b> (30 years Laval Multiple Sclerosis Association), Master Corporal Hugues Van den Abeele<\/b> (The Black Watch of Canada) and Master Corporal R\u00e9mi Voyer<\/b> (Army veteran and retired United Nations peacekeeper also known for his work with Op\u00e9ration Enfant Soleil).<\/div>\n

\nCanada minted the Diamond Jubilee Medal to mark the 60th year of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, as a way to recognize people who have made a significant contribution to Canadians.<\/p>\n

\nChomedey’s representative in the Quebec legislature since 2007 was honoured for 30 years of public service, Feb. 2. Former policeman turned politician Guy Ouellette previously served with distinction as a peace officer with the S\u00fbret\u00e9 de Qu\u00e9bec, where he rose to the rank of sergeant.<\/b><\/div>\n
