Jean-Claude Gob\u00e9 is thinking of running for mayor of Laval during upcoming municipal elections in November, according to a close political associate.<\/p>\n

Christian Toussaint told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview that several months ago the former Quebec Liberal politician, who has resided in Laval for the past 15 years, began to contemplate throwing his hat in the ring.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people there know him and asked him whether he would consider a return to politics,\u201d he recounted. \u201cEverything that happened last fall prompted him to reflect on democracy and lack of transparency in Laval.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 63-year-old businessman was elected four times by the citizens of Montreal’s Lafontaine riding to represent them in the Quebec legislature from 1985-2003.<\/p>\n

Toussaint underlined that Gob\u00e9 has \u201cnot yet officially announced his candidacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now he is following Laval issues, in preparation,\u201d he said. \u201cWhat he wants is to develop a serious, structured organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that Gob\u00e9 is currently out of town.<\/p>\n

\u201cTwo weeks from now, when he returns, he plans to convene some meetings,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe intends to move forward gradually.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gob\u00e9 was born in France and served in a French marine infantry regiment until 1971, the year before he moved to Canada.<\/p>\n

He ran twice in federal elections as a Liberal Party of Canada candidate, but was defeated both times: in Pointe de l’\u00cele (2004); and in Alfred Pellan (2006).<\/p>\n

Although Gob\u00e9 joined the Parti Action d\u00e9mocratique<\/i> in 2011, Toussaint said that the Gob\u00e9’s potential candidacy for mayor \u201cis not an ADQ initiative\u201d and that Gob\u00e9 \u201cis not involved in ADQ responsibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n
