\nPointe Claire Library\u2019s<\/a> entire collection of children\u2019s VHS videos will go up for sale, March 1-2<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple of thousand children\u2019s books<\/a> will also be sold\u201d, Friends of Pointe Claire Library president Timothy Fain told The Suburban<\/i>, \u201cin addition to around 1,500 videocassettes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe library continually has to refresh its collection and, since there is no storage area available, we have to conduct these ongoing book sales in order to free up space,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The volunteer, non-profit organization, Fain explained, \u201cwas founded to advocate for the library and serves as a conduit for ongoing book sales.\u201d<\/p>\n

Proceeds are ploughed back into the library. The Friends\u2019 most recent contribution was to pay for part of the construction of a teen section, which was opened during an official afternoon ceremony, Feb. 14, in the presence of Mayor Bill McMurchie<\/a> and city councilors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are able to help the library to provide services that are not included in the budget,\u201d Fain continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition to the teen centre, we have contributed the seating in the reading section, and financed a pilot project to introduce Wii educational games for children that promote eye-hand coordination and puzzle-solving skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also supply Christmas baskets of books each year to needy children,\u201d he added. \u201cThe books are provided in both official languages and provide food for these growing minds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friends also provides books for the Pointe Claire Library\u2019s reading club.<\/p>\n

Part of the city\u2019s master plan for the 21st century includes the eventual development of a civic centre that would one day include various facilities such as the library.<\/p>\n

Friends will conduct this week\u2019s sale at the library, where they will also hold their Victoria Day sale of adult books.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also plan a third sale this year, probably some time in October,\u201d Fain concluded.<\/p>\n

Fain also noted that, last month, Internet hackers took down the Friends\u2019 web site lesamisbibliopc.org<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are still trying to rebuild the site,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/div>\n
