Jean Rousselle elegized Serge B\u00e9lisle, 54, who succumbed to a brain tumor, March 10.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nB\u00e9lisle served 28 years with the Laval police service, where he rose to deputy chief, before taking over as Quebec City’s police chief in 2007.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cSerge was a thoughtful colleague, a policeman with a passion for his work and respectful towards police service employees and his fellow citizens,\u201d Rousselle, a former Laval police colleague, told Quebec legislators. \u201cSerge was devoted to the people whom he served and known for the many works he did to help the most destitute members of our society.\u201d <\/div>\n

\n\u201cSerge was a happy man who liked to bring happiness to those who surrounded him. He was a natural leader, a visionary whom we shall miss deeply.\u201d<\/div>\n

Proulx: Women’s Day<\/b><\/p>\n

Sainte Rose’s representative preceded Rousselle’s remembrance with a call to recognize the progress Quebec women have attained.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n\u201cInternational Women’s Day, March 8, was a great opportunity to assess the journey and to take stock of the progress achieved towards a just and egalitarian society,\u201d stated Suzanne Proulx.<\/p>\n

“We can now work successfully in all occupations, all professions including\u2014as of quite recently\u2014the post of premier. The glass ceiling has been smashed as never before, and the great contribution of women to their cities, their regions and their countries is now unquestioned.”<\/p>\n

\n
\n Charbonneau: Intellectually Handicapped<\/b><\/p>\n

Mille \u00celes’ representative rose to underscore Intellectually Handicapped Week by highlighting the work of the Federation of<\/a> <\/a>Quebec People First Movements<\/a>.<\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cIn the name of my colleagues, I would like to acknowledge and congratulate their president, Louise Bourgois,\u201d praised Francine Charbonneau. \u201cThe federation and the movements are run by and for people who live with an intellectual handicap as well as those who speak and work in their name. They defend the rights of everyone who lives with an intellectual handicap.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis week you will be receiving a calendar, Mr. Speaker,\u201d Charbonneau added. \u201cEach month is the result of a drawing contest for members of the federation. This year, 672 drawings were submitted from throughout Quebec. The theme this year was: People first: Gathered together and united for our rights.\u201d<\/i><\/div>\n

\n Proulx: Newborns and parents’ needs<\/b><\/p>\n

Proulx rose again in the assembly the following day, March 13, to shine light on a Laval service for expectant and new parents.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cMieux Na\u00eetre Laval’s<\/a> mission is to help parents harmoniously and satisfactorily navigate the arrival of a child,\u201d she explained. \u201cThey’re the first organization in Quebec to twin prenatal services with a birthing centre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are practical visionaries, organized with a commitment to society,\u201d she commented. \u201cTo all of them, I say bravo.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
