As a way to make sure that children who finish with the Batshaw programs still have access to help and mentoring once they turn 18, Pointe Claire’s Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de l’Ouest-de-l’\u00cele <\/i>and Batshaw signed an entente last week in the West Island offices of the youth employment centre that will further strengthen ties between the two non profit agencies that have been working together albeit less informally over the last decade and a half.<\/p>\n

Carrefour jeunesse-emploi de l’Ouest-de-l’\u00cele<\/i> Director General Yves Picard, who has spent the past 26 years working with youth, found that once many of the clientele at Batshaw turned legal age, “they leave those programs with little or no follow up and are not ready to take care of themselves,” Picard told The Suburban.<\/i><\/p>\n

Now, both agencies will do appropriate checkups and “we will work as a team so when the teenager moves on, there is adequate follow up,” Picard said.<\/p>\n

Now, both agencies will be able to assure that “the teenagers are always followed up until they reach complete autonomy and do not need us anymore,” said Picard.<\/p>\n

The youth employment agency’s target clientele is 18 to 35 which complements well with Batshaw who deal with children until 18. “This entente creates a serious and credible partnership that will help create contributing members of the community,” said Picard.<\/p>\n

The two agencies plan to share evaluation and intervention tools, create a better exchange of information between the two as well as better use of comprehensive data that can be used towards research and specified programs or workshops.<\/p>\n

“The signing of this protocol means that all concerned will be able to do more for our youth,” said Picard. <\/p>\n
