Laval municipal election hopefuls from the Mouvement lavallois<\/i> (ML) party have threatened to conduct their own public hearings, if the city refuses their demands.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaval has to file a revised urban development plan by March 12, 2014,\u201d David de Cotis, who represents ML in St. Bruno district, Emilio Migliozzi, of Fabreville district and ML spokesman Marc Demers said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s only reasonable to hold hearings as soon as possible, so we won\u2019t have to start the process after upcoming elections in November, when only four months will remain for the city to adopt new regulations,\u201d they pleaded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe current development plan dates from 1989,\u201d they claimed, \u201cand the 2006 draft revision hasn\u2019t been approved yet by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement contended that ten different green advocacy groups \u201cworking for the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development\u201d want the city to convene public hearings.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaval has changed a lot since the last consultations were held in 2004, but not necessarily for the better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nThey described the ML party as the city\u2019s \u201cadministration-in-waiting\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMouvement lavallois firmly believes in its prospects of forming the next city government,\u201d they concluded.<\/p><\/div>\n
