Beno\u00eet Fradet and Basile Angelopoulos, longtime Laval municipal councillors announced during last week\u2019s city council meeting that they will not be seeking re-election this fall. <\/p>\n

Fradet, who was first elected to municipal council in 1997, had served as a member of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

Angelopoulos was first elected to city council 16 years ago and was appointed vice-president of the city\u2019s executive committee in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter 16 years of service it\u2019s time to step aside,\u201d Angelopoulos said. \u201cI leave the seat for others who hopefully come to it with enthusiasm and passion as I did for the last 16 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Angelopoulos, who will soon turn 55 at the end of his mandate, stated that he hopes that whoever will run in the upcoming election will be devoted to Laval and will want to continue to advance the city in all fronts.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cLaval has a bright future and great potential,\u201d Angelopoulos said. \u201cI\u2019m amazed how much time flew by, but I\u2019m looking forward to the personal and professional projects that await me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Angelopoulos\u2019s colleague Fradet also spoke about his decision to not run again for elections, citing similar reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just turned 48, I\u2019ve been in politics for 24 years, starting in 1989,\u201d Fradet said. \u201cPolitics was great, a nice experience both on a provincial level and municipal level, but now it\u2019s time to go back to a private life and take care of my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fradet stated he has two teenage children and wants to concentrate on his personal life and on his job as vice-president of Schokbeton, a concrete manufacturer in St. Eustache where he has been employed for 10 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have achieved a lot of good accomplishments during the past 15 years,\u201d Fradet said, \u201cincluding bridges in the east, metro stations and universities. I hope that whoever runs will take this potential and continue to work at it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Laval is a great city in a great position and I hope the best for everything and that Alexandre Duplessis will continue in politics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Fradet offered his best wishes to the politicians who continue to take care of Laval, adding that he believes that he \u201cdid [his fair] share of it.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
