Members of the public suggested nearly 500 names for two Sir Wilfrid Laurier schools, by the time the school board\u2019s name-the-school contest closed to entries, Feb. 13. <\/p>\n

As this week\u2019s edition of The Suburban<\/i> went to press, the school board was preparing to present the top five submissions it selected to each school\u2019s governing boards, for them to narrow down the options to three for each.<\/p>\n

SWLSB came up with the idea for a naming contest as it readies to merge four Chomedey high schools into two, July 1. The current school names are: Laval Liberty High School and Laurier Senior High School, Mother Teresa Junior High School and Laval Junior High School.<\/p>\n

If all goes according to plan, parents ought to receive an electronic mail message tomorrow, inviting them to vote electronically for one of those names. The results of those ballots are slated to be announced during the April 22 school commissioner meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cSir Wilfred Laurier School Board received 301 total submissions for the name-the-school contest,\u201d school board chair Jennifer Maccarone told The Suburban<\/i> via text message.<\/p>\n

Although SWLSB permitted any member of the public to suggest a name via the Internet, voting on the final choices will be restricted to students\u2019 parents. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn all, 233 people gave suggestions for the junior\/middle school and 262 people for the senior school,\u201d Maccarone wrote.
