After administrators at CSSS Cavendish posted a public notice advising C\u00f4te St. Luc residents that access to physicians would be restricted, last week, The Suburban<\/i> canvassed other health care providers in the region to find out what impact the Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois<\/i> government’s cutbacks have had on medical service delivery in Laval.<\/p>\n

CSSS Cavendish advised people who don’t have a family doctor to \u201cregister on our centralized waiting list. We will then contact you as soon as a doctor becomes available.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n
Mathieu Vachon reassured The Suburban<\/i> in an interview that \u201cwe have not been affected by the budget cutbacks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe walk-in clinic located in Ste. Rose is also a family medicine centre,\u201d said the CSSS Laval spokesman. \u201cIt remains open seven-days-a-week. On weekdays it’s open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and weekend and holidays from 8 a.m. -5 p.m.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThat’s a place where you can go see a doctor,\u201d Vachon affirmed. \u201cWe also have three other centres which don’t have walk-in clinics, but do provide nursing services by appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve concentrated walk-in services in Ste. Rose, which is like a small emergency room\u2014though it is not a true emergency ward,\u201d he explained. \u201cAll emergencies are treated at the Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9<\/i> superhospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vachon pointed out that while the Ste. Rose facility is CSSS Laval’s only walk-in clinic, Laval residents are also served by another 14-15 independent walk-in clinics. <\/p>\n

\u201cMany people prefer to visit a walk-in clinic closer to where they live,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n
