After the province ordered Laval into trusteeship, June 3, Parti au service du citoyen <\/i>mayoral candidate Robert Bordeleau called on the province to move up the date of the next municipal election which, by law, must be held Nov. 3.<\/p>\n

According to Municipal Affairs Ministry spokeswoman Caroline St. Pierre, the provincial government would have to pass a special law to hold the election any earlier.<\/p>\n

Quebec Liberal Party municipal affairs critic Marc Carri\u00e8re doesn’t think there’s a need to do so, though.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t think it’s a good idea,\u201d he told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview. \u201cThe four-and-a-half months remaining before the election will give all the candidates who would like to run the time to campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSeveral weeks ago, we called for Laval to be placed under trusteeship, and now that has been done and the city’s affairs are being supervised by the municipal commission,\u201d Carri\u00e8re reassured, \u201cso I think we ought to wait.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayoral candidates Jean-Claude Gob\u00e9 and Marc Demers also told The Suburban<\/i> that they are prepared to wait until the Nov. 3 election date.<\/div>\n
