In Laval\u2019s pursuit of eco-balance, the city has over time acquired portions of land adjacent to the Bois de l\u2019\u00c9querre. In October 2013, the city granted the management contract of 118 hectares of this land to Corporation for the Development of the Woods. Satisfied with the work done by the corporation, the executive committee members have signed a new agreement with the organization to ensure monitoring and maintenance of the grounds and their conservation and enhancement. <\/p>\n

\u201cValid for a period of three years, from 2014-2016, this agreement will enable volunteers from the non-profit organization to continue its educational and recreational activities so that the Laval community can access and enjoy the benefits of such urban wealth,\u201d said Ste. Rose Councillor Virginie Dufour said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The agreement governs the preservation of woods, the reception of citizens, trail maintenance, the public awareness program, education and monitoring.<\/p>\n

Activities and projects that are currently carried out by the corporation are expansion and maintenance of the arboretum plantations, improving the website, creating an educational project, trail maintenance, cleaning and signage, events and activities open to the general public and implementation of new infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The woods are some of the last large natural areas accessible north of Laval. The 225 hectare ecosystem contributes to the quality of life of citizens. More information and a video with an overview of the rich wooded area can be found at www.boisdelequerre.org<\/a>
