{"id":1952,"date":"2013-06-26T16:31:00","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T16:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2013\/06\/26\/val-des-arbres-cifelli-wants-action-on\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:41:46","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:41:46","slug":"val-des-arbres-cifelli-wants-action-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2013\/06\/26\/val-des-arbres-cifelli-wants-action-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Val des Arbres: Cifelli wants action on youth, seniors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Archie Cifelli thinks that the city can do more for Laval\u2019s youthful residents, and has thrown his hat into the ring in this fall\u2019s municipal election to try to do something about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to try to create social centres for our youth,\u201d the Action Laval party candidate for city councilor in Val des Arbres district told <i>The Suburban<\/i> in an interview. \u201cMany youth become delinquent because they don\u2019t have anything to do. These are good kids. We need to create somewhere for them to go to become involved in activities that are tailored for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cifelli has, since 2000, been actively involved in the community, with its strong French, English and Italian population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been on the board of the Don Bosco youth centre in Rivi\u00e8re des Prairies for the past four years, and I\u2019ve seen what they are doing there with a limited budged but great talent,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n<div>\n\u201cWhat they are doing for youth in their area of Laval is amazing,\u201d he enthused, \u201cand I want to try to replicate that in our area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the other hand, I have met many of the elderly residents of the district, and there is also a need for services for them,\u201d Cifelli added, noting that transportation can often be an issue, as people age. \u201cThere are free activities at the Pavillon Bois\u00e9 on St. Martin, but a lot of elderly people don\u2019t have the means to get there.
