Foundation depends on government recognition, resident says <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

An assisted living organization is being forced into an unexpected fight in Dollard des Ormeaux after recognition for some of their locations is being suddenly pulled by the Agence de sant\u00e9 et services sociaux de <\/i>Montr\u00e9al,<\/i> a move that will cost them much-needed funding.<\/p>\n

The Cheshire Foundation, which runs two locations in Dollard des Ormeaux for individuals such as elderly residents or people with physical disabilities who might need additional aid but still want independence, has been fighting to have their second residence recognized by the Agence after it was suddenly pulled, but with no luck.<\/p>\n

Michael Gray, a long-term resident of the Cheshire Home who has been with them for more than 20 years, told The Suburban<\/i> that the problem stems from the fact that the Agence promised the foundation recognition for their new location on Place David before it was even purchased, a promise which was later broken when the Agence not only refused to recognize that location but also pulled the funding that it had promised as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were promising additional funding in 2008, before we purchased the house on Place David, and that\u2019s gone now. They don\u2019t want to fund that location,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

When asked what possible reason there could be to not recognize the Place David location when the Agence already recognizes Cheshire\u2019s other home on Sunshine Drive, Gray explained that the foundation had no idea because the Agence had ceased all communication and was refusing to meet with anyone on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will not meet with Cheshire at all, they will not meet with the director or president. They are refusing to talk to anybody about this,\u201d he said. \u201cThe main thing is, Cheshire wants both houses recognized officially, and I’ve fought for two and a half years for this. They were going to recognize it, and now they aren’t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though the foundation has been cut off from communicating with the Agence, Gray said that they would continue to fight for recognition for their second facility, as they had been promised before making the purchase.<\/p><\/div>\n
