Construction on the eight-storey low-income seniors\u2019 apartment on boulevard des Ch\u00e2teaux began two weeks ago.<\/p>\n

When the building is done in autumn 2014, it will contain 86 apartments for seniors 75 years old and older or those aged 64 to 75, if they have mild disabilities. The building will also contain offices for the 15 or so employees of Laval\u2019s housing authority the Office municipal d\u2019habitation de Laval <\/i>(OMHL) and a cafeteria.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us, this project is very important because this is the first building in which we have in-house services–a cafeteria, a security guard and our offices,\u201d says Andr\u00e9 D\u00e9nomm\u00e9, a spokesperson for the OMHL. \u201cOur residences now have no services like that so we\u2019ll increase our offerings to our clientele.\u201d<\/p>\n

The building is being constructed by Seven Brothers Construction Inc., which has offices on 7910 Marco Polo in Montr\u00e9al. Company officers include Alfonso, Argento, Calogero and Elio Argento. The main owner of the company is 174664 Canada Ltd., which includes the same officers as Seven Brothers, plus Gerlando, Michele and Settimio Argento. <\/p>\n

OMHL won\u2019t be able to begin taking reservations until Spring 2014, when they had originally hoped to begin filling two buildings beginning this fall.<\/p>\n

Opposition to a second proposed project on Tessier Blvd. halted plans for the five-storey building in Parc Chopin last March. D\u00e9nomm\u00e9 says that his organization hopes to find land for that project in the coming months.<\/p>\n
