Laval police have arrested two men, July 8, after a citizen witnessed them trying to cut the fence that protects the railway line in Laval and called 911.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe suspects were in a dark pickup truck at 84 St. Rose East,\u201d Sgt. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Jean told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cThe officers found the two men hiding, after they had cut approximately 50 metres of fencing. We believe that they were cutting the fence to sell it for scrap metal.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThey were stealing a fence that was there for the public’s safety,\u201d he added. \u201cThose barriers are important because we often get calls about people\u2014usually youth\u2014walking on the track, which is extremely dangerous.\u201d <\/p>\n

One of the suspects, St. Fran\u00e7ois resident Michel Senneville, 44, faces charges of breaking and entering, theft and possession of criminal break-in instruments. He was also wanted for breaches in the conditions of his probation for previous offences. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere were almost a dozen outstanding cases against him in the last four years for theft, possession of stolen goods and breaking and entering,\u201d said Sgt. Jean. \u201cThe other suspect, a 21-year-old Repentigny resident, had other, very prior offences, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.\u201d <\/p>\n

Happy thieves in Heinekin heist <\/b>

\nPolice are looking for a pair of mellow pair of thieves with the munchies in Vimont. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey went to the till at the d\u00e9panneur at 1845 St. Elz\u00e9ar with a five-litre barrel of Heinekin beer, cigarettes and sandwiches worth $196,\u201d said Sgt. Jean. When their debit card didn’t work, they just looked at each other and walked out laughing.\u201d <\/p>\n

The faces of the smiling bandits were captured on the store’s security camera, and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nChomedey cell phone stickup <\/b>

\nAround 3:30 p.m., July 9, two French-speaking black men wearing masks and carrying shotguns entered the Planete Mobile cell phone store at 1293 Labelle and ordered all five employees and a customer to lie face-down on the ground. \u201cThey stole cell phones, and the cash in the till and fled in a beige vehicle waiting outside with another black man in the driver’s seat,\u201d reported Sgt. Jean.<\/p>\n

\nThe phones are easily identified by their electronic serial number and police and Sgt. Jean warned \u201cif you’re considering buying a phone at a price that’s too good to be true, it will probably be useless in a few months.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
\nThat’s because a new law will kick in, in November, which will require mobile phone networks to keep a registry of stolen phones and tablet computers. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the device tries to log in to the network, it will be flagged as stolen and blocked,\u201d Sgt. Jean explained. \u201cIf you know someone who has had one stolen, tell them to advise police of the device’s electronic serial number. Once people routinely provide this information for the police report, it will help reduce dramatically the number of thefts of these expensive devices.\u201d <\/p>\n

Motorcycle noise blitz <\/b>

<\/b>
\nPolice are trying to bring peace and quiet back to Laval neigbourhoods by enforcing laws that limit how much noise a motorcycle can make. <\/p>\n

Traffic patrol officers fanned out with sound measuring equipment on St. Martin Blvd., July 11, to check whether local bikers were compliant. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey verified 15 motorcycles, of which three were found to exceed the noise limits,\u201d reported Sgt. Jean. \u201cThose three received infractions, and there were four other citations for other non-compliant equipment, speeding or crossing an intersection on a red light.<\/p>\n
