\nand the constant addition online of new fonds such as older parish registers, notarial acts, historical records, family lineages obtained from ancient books,
\nit is imperative for anyone who is researching in France to know about the
\nancient provinces of France and the corresponding modern-day d\u00e9partements.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe implementation of
\nd\u00e9partements was instituted after the French Revolution.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nYou will notice that a few
\nd\u00e9partements are listed with more than one province. When the new government of
\nFrance redressed the internal borders of France, they disregarded several of
\nthe previous borders that had been in effect for centuries under the various
\nkings of France.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn addition, certain
\nregions of France\u2014such as Alsace, Bourgogne, Bordeaux and Champagne\u2014are still
\nbeing used in describing a region although they no longer hold official status
