The current Lachine councillor for the Fort Roland, Jean-Francois Cloutier, will be running for a seat on the city of Montreal council in the upcoming Nov. 3 municipal election and native resident and longtime volunteer Kym Simonyik hopes to take his place. <\/p>\n

\nSimonyik has volunteered for many organizations over the years, including the Pointe Claire Swim Club, Parent-Teacher Association President for \u00c9cole Victor Therien<\/i> as well
as serving as the president for the Dixie Pool board for the last six years.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAfter being part of the board for the last decade and a half, Simonyik was pleased to work on the same team that was able to bring about “many updates and renovations at the pool, bringing it back to its former glory and increasing membership by hundreds of local Lachine residents. Dixie is a unique community pool with programs that grow with the kids and allows them to stay active by participating and competing in various sports. It has also produced many elite athletes who have even gone on to participate at the national level and the Olympics.”<\/p>\n

Simonyik, who has worked at Air Canada for the last 16 years, decided to leave the board at Dixie because “I decided to take my leave as people become complacent when things are well run and it is only fair to get some of the newer families involved since my son is now 20 and no longer even uses the pool.”<\/p>\n

The fact that her children are older and that Borough Mayor Claude Dauphin asked Simonyik to run were good enough reasons for her to throw her hat into the municipal politics ring.<\/p><\/div>\n

“It was a great honour to be asked to run and it is a privilege to be part of Mr. Dauphin’s team,” Simonyik told The Suburban. <\/p>\n

She believes wholeheartedly in Dauphin’s vision of “putting Lachine residents first as we have seen services go down since the municipal mergers but the new vision is the way to go with our citizens.” <\/p>\n

Equipe Dauphin Lachine<\/i> will be releasing its election platform in the near future. <\/div>\n
