Beaconsfield Library is set to launch its new season of Moms\u2019 and Daughters\u2019 Book Club, which brings together girls in Grade 5 and 6 and their moms to read and talk about books.<\/p>\n

\nDuring the 1998 Ice Storm, a group of book-loving mothers and daughters met by candlelight in Beaconsfield Library and passed around copies of Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. Fifteen years later, the book club is still alive and well and set to start up a new season, still in its original location.<\/p>\n

Geraldine Rose, the organizer of the club, has been with the group since its inception. She commented \u201cwhen we started we were a group of eight moms and eight daughters. We went on until June and in September of that year they all came back!.\u201d <\/p><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nThe club allows girls in Grades 5 and 6 to share their love of reading with their moms and other girls of the same age group. Every month a book is chosen, democratically, by the electorate of girls and moms.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAs Geraldine puts it \u201cthey come along with a book they are presenting and then the girls vote. If there\u2019s a tie then the mums vote.\u201d There are also prizes given out at Moms\u2019 and Daughters\u2019 book club, including paperback editions of the books that the group is reading. <\/p>\n

The book club meets monthly on a Monday, and the first meeting of this season is on Sept. 9.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nThe book club is open to all members of Beaconsfield library, and membership of the library is free to residents of Kirkland and Beaconsfield.<\/div>\n
