Last week, Montreal mayoral candidate Marcel C\u00f4t\u00e9 made two election stops in the West Island as he introduced his slate of candidates for the boroughs of Lachine and Pierrefonds-Roxboro in the upcoming November municipal election.<\/p>\n

In front of the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough hall last Tuesday morning, C\u00f4t\u00e9 introduced his candidates that include incumbent Councillor Christian Dubois who will run as mayor for the borough. Dubois has been a councillor for the last eight years and currently serves on the city’s executive committee responsible for public safety.<\/p>\n

The rest of the candidates running under C\u00f4t\u00e9’s banner are Suzanne Marceau who is the vice-chair of the Marguerite Bourgeoys School Board, Linton Garner who works for the LBPSB, health care representative Odette Maltais and David-James Smith who works in the transportation and construction milieu. <\/p>\n

C\u00f4t\u00e9 introduced the rookie politicians as “a team that will bring new blood to the borough that is unique because, like Montreal, Pierrefonds-Roxboro is a perfect example of the diversity of the Montreal community with 30 per cent anglophones, 30 percent francophones and 30 percent allophones.”<\/p>\n

The Montreal city mayoral candidate also noted that Pierrefonds-Roxboro is one of the only municipalities that “is in a growth area with 7,000-8,000 new homes to be built and it will be important to bring more affordable housing to the borough.”<\/p>\n

C\u00f4t\u00e9 also acknowledged that better public transportation is needed for the borough.<\/p>\n

\n“There needs to be more parking as the two train stations are so popular that motorists have to park on neighbouring streets. A rapid bus system with a link to the C\u00f4te Vertu metro is also needed.”<\/p>\n

Dubois told the assembled that one his main priorities will be to ensure that the Highway 440 urban boulevard gets constructed, an issue that has “been in negotiations with the borough for the last 30 years and traffic congestion is a major issue for citizens. There has been money set aside by the city of Montreal for studies and plans on the project.”<\/p>\n

Dubois also stressed the need for more citizen services including the construction of a new public pool for residents.<\/p>\n

Three days later in Lachine, C\u00f4t\u00e9 introduced his slate of candidates that include two incumbent councillors, Bernard Blanchet and Lise Poulin. Mario Durante, who served as councillor in 1993 for one term, is coming back to politics and Catherine M\u00e9nard, who has worked in education, will be running for the first time.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Lachine team will offer a combination of experience and renewal, and propose a local program developed together with residents,\u201d said C\u00f4t\u00e9. <\/p><\/div>\n
