Laval police beat: Fatal car accident, home invasion <\/b><\/i>

Police were called to quell an angry crowd of Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de transport de Laval (STL) bus drivers, Sept. 11, after they voted out the entire executive committee of their union. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey went to STL offices later that night at around 9-10 p.m. to get some papers,\u201d recounted Laval Police Const. Nathalie Lorrain. \u201cThey had just been voted into office and the STL administration wanted first to make sure that their election had been legitimate before allowing people to enter the premises.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a bit of shouting but no pushing or shoving and no property was damaged,\u201d she continued. \u201cPolice only mediated between the two sides in order to prevent the incident from escalating, and everyone ultimately agreed to go home peacefully.\u201d <\/p>\n

Bus drivers’ union president Richard Ouimet reportedly intends to challenge the legitimacy of the ouster. <\/p>\n

Young woman killed in crash <\/b><\/p>\n

An unidentified 21-year-old woman driving a Hyundai Accent perished after losing control of her vehicle, Sept. 8, and careening into two cars heading in the opposite direction. <\/p>\n

\u201cWitnesses first saw her driving faster than 120 km\/h on Highway 440, which turns into des Bois,\u201d Const. Lorrain told The Suburban<\/i>. \u201cThey said that she was driving erratically, veering out of her lane.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOnce she was on des Bois, she swerved out of control and struck an oncoming BMW, then collided with an oncoming Jeep Wrangler. Her car ended up in the ditch on the side of the road,\u201d Const. Lorrain said. \u201cWhen police first arrived, she was unconscious with no breathing or pulse. Patrol officers tried to resuscitate her, but an Urgences sant\u00e9 doctor subsequently declared her dead at the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n

The drivers of the other vehicles were transported to hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries.

\nPolice dog nabs home invaders <\/b><\/p>\n

\nTwo men tried to enter a home on Ste. Rose Blvd., Sept. 6, by knocking at the door and pretending to suffer from stomach cramps.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the victim opened the door, they pushed inside,\u201d said Const. Lorrain. \u201cHe fought back, but one of the home invaders hit him on the head with what we now know to be a pellet gun.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHe kept resisting, and the perpetrators fled,\u201d she continued. \u201cA Laval police dog and handler succeeded in tracking down the suspects and the gun. The pair have been charged with breaking and entering, assault with a simulated weapon and violations of parole conditions.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n
