Laval patrol officers have had to euthanize a wild deer that they found on Highway 335 St. Sa\u00ebns in Autheuil, after it was struck by a motor vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe driver fled the scene,\u201d Sgt. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Jean told The Suburban,<\/i> \u201cthough from the debris at the scene, it obviously did a lot of damage to the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police are warning drivers to be alert for wildlife crossing the Laval roads, particularly at night.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s quite problematic on Highway 335, north of Highway 40, and on Highway 13 and the service road, as well as Marcel Villeneuve St. Fran\u00e7ois and Highway 25,\u201d warned Sgt. Jean. \u201cThese accidents usually lead to a loss of control, and can cause the car to leave the road often in proximity of static barriers or trees. A deer can weigh as much as a person and poses a serious hazard to compact and sub-compact cars, because it can go through the windshield, causing a fatality or serious injury.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDrivers should remain on the scene after such an accident,\u201d he added. \u201cThey need to file a proper accident report so they can make a claim through their insurance firm for accident or injury, and it’s important to report the collision to ensure that the animal doesn’t suffer needlessly.\u201d <\/p>\n

Moose, which are much more deadly to encounter on the road, have not been seen in Laval for several years, though \u00cele J\u00e9sus still has a thriving fox and coyote population. <\/p>\n

ABM robbers put away <\/b>

\nWielding a pistol and and axe Jean-Michel Dub\u00e9, 29, and Clifford Dervin, 35, robbed bank machine users all over Laval and were involved in a home invasion in July. Today, they’re in custody awaiting trial, after Laval police arrested them, Sept. 19. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey would threaten people leaving a banking machine, and force them to make a $500 withdrawal,\u201d reported Sgt. Jean. \u201cThey have been charged with five counts of armed robbery in Chomedey, Duvernay, Laval West and Fabreville and for a home invasion on Mille \u00celes.\u201d <\/p>\n

Dub\u00e9 is a resident of Bois des Filion and Dervin lived in Auteuil.<\/p>\n

\n
\n Interprovincial bank robbers busted<\/b><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nLaval police were involved in an operation, Sept. 20, that saw them arrest two men who had made off more than $600,000 in a series of bank robberies in Quebec and Ontario.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe worked in cooperation with S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Quebec,<\/i> Gatineau, Ottawa and Ontario Provincial Police,\u201d said Sgt. Jean. \u201cDaniel Loyer, 44, and St\u00e9phane B\u00e9langer, 35, had attempted to rob TD Bank and Bank of Montreal outlets in Laval in August.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe had committed another armed robbery in Vaudreuil and four in Ontario: Sault St. Marie, Sudbury, Stittsville and Cambridge.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an operation that was coordinated over a two-month period,\u201d Sgt. Jean explained. \u201cAfter the S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec<\/i> tactical squad executed the search warrant in Gatineau, the pair were transported to the Laval regional detention centre and were brought before the court, Sept. 23.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ontario Provincial Police have taken charge of the four cases in their jurisdiction, which will be tried before an Ontario court,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Loyer previously served a ten-year sentence for a similar crime.<\/p><\/div>\n
