Voters in Verdun split their choices between all the candidates who represented change. <\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone in Verdun wants change and our position is not so far from that of Projet Montr\u00e9al or even M\u00e9lanie Joly,\u201d says Jean-Fan\u00e7ois Parenteau, who is now mayor-elect of the borough. \u201cAs long as there\u2019s change we\u2019re happy. During our first year, we\u2019re going to hold an estates general consultation to determine a new combined vision for the borough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parenteau, with \u00c9quipe Denis Coderre, got 5,134 votes, for a total of 24.74 percent.<\/p>\n

Mary Ann Davis put up a good fight, with 22 percent of the vote. Mourad Bendjennet came in third with 17.56 percent. Current Councillors Alain Tass\u00e9, Andr\u00e9 Savard and Andr\u00e9e Champoux came in fourth, fifth and sixth with 7,133 votes total, or 44.4 percent, split between them.<\/p>\n

Manon Gauthier from \u00c9quipe Coderre was elected city Councillor for Nuns\u2019 Island\u2013Champlain. Projet Montr\u00e9al\u2019s Sterling Downey will represent Desmarchais\u2013Crawford on city council. Gauthier beat M\u00e9lanie Joly\u2019s candidate, Mathieu Belanger, by 329 votes. Downey beat S\u00e9bastien Dhavernas by 226 votes. All 101 polls were counted. <\/p>\n

The borough council is also split with \u00c9quipe Coderre\u2019s Marie-Eve Brunet and Pierre L’Heureux representing Nuns\u2019 Island\u2013Champlain and Projet Montr\u00e9al\u2019s Luc Gagnon and Marie-Andr\u00e9e Mauger representing Desmarchais-Champlain. All four beat their closest competitors by less than 500 votes. <\/p>\n

Luc Gagnon beat Michelle Tremblay from \u00c9quipe Coderre by only 104 votes, so that seat will likely face a recount. <\/p>\n

A total of 47,677 people were registered to vote in Verdun, although less than half cast a ballot. The mayoralty campaign was decided by 21,335 people, for a turnout of 44.75 per cent. Scrutineers rejected 583 ballots. The turnout in Nuns\u2019 Island-Champlain was a slightly higher 45.55 percent than in Desmarchais-Crawford, where it was 43.6 percent. <\/p>\n
