Claude Dauphin, who has served as mayor of the borough of Lachine for the last 12 years, has been given another mandate after claiming 56 percent in Sunday’s vote. His slate of councillors were also victorious, winning seats in all council districts. <\/p>\n

Dauphin defeated opponents Pierre Ene, who ran independently and Patricia Bossy who ran with Projet Montr\u00e9al-\u00c9quipe Bergeron.<\/i> <\/p>\n

Jean-Francois Cloutier narrowly beat former councillor Bernard Blanchet to represent Lachine at the city of Montreal’s council while Daniel Racicot, Kymberly Simonyik and Maya Vodanovic will be representing the constituents of Lachine.<\/p>\n

Dauphin told The Suburban<\/i> that his biggest challenge will be to balance the “equity payments we receive from Montreal because right now under the current system, Lachine is suffering.<\/p>\n

“We need to continue to fight for better equity as we have one of the biggest industrial parks on the island but receive zero in revenue as it all goes to the city and the same goes for our next construction; that formula has to change,” Dauphin said. <\/p>\n

Dauphin\u2014who also currently serves as president of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities\u2014is pleased that Denis Coderre has been elected as mayor of Montreal.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\n“This could be a new era for Montreal and we have worked together in the past when we both worked federally in Ottawa,” said Dauphin. “We want to give a chance to the new team.” <\/p>\n

But Lachine’s patience is not indefinite as Dauphin and his team will give the current scenario about a year to a year and a half to resolve.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n“If not, we will return to the citizens to see what they want to do,” said Dauphin. “For now, we will wait and see what is going to happen next.”<\/div>\n
