Laval\u2019s new million training facility for aerospace workers will launch tomorrow, in an initiative that will bolster Laval\u2019s position in Quebec\u2019s thriving aerospace sector.<\/p>\n

Training centre director St\u00e9phane Arsenault has invited news media to tour the Rossignol boulevard premises during the Institut de Formation a\u00e9rospatiale\u2019s<\/i> (IFA) official opening, Nov. 28.<\/p>\n

The non-profit organization has provided skills training to Quebec\u2019s aerospace sector since 2005.<\/p>\n

It originally focused on supporting companies that dealt closely with Quebec aerospace giant Bombardier, but its role has since evolved to bolster the province\u2019s entire aerospace sector.<\/p>\n

IFA said in a statement that Bombardier still plays a supporting role, \u201cinvesting and contributing equipment, material and human resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most of IFA\u2019s efforts are directed toward helping some 40, mostly small- and medium-sized aerospace firms that might otherwise not have sufficient funds to attain the critical mass they need to provide the sort of training that IFA offers. <\/p>\n

In making the shift, IFA has significantly ramped up the number of people whom it trains each year. <\/p>\n

In 2012 alone, more than 12,000 individuals participated IFA-run aerospace training. <\/p>\n

The aim, IFA said, is to \u201cdevelop a \u2018culture of competence\u2019, especially for small- and medium-sized enterprises, who strive to become and remain competitive players in the global aerospace supply chain.\u201d <\/p>\n
