Every contractor who offers snow removal services in Laval with a vehicle to clear private driveways and alleyways has to register with the city to do so. <\/p>\n
\u201cYear after year, snow removal trucks are involved in involuntary accidents or cause damage to property,\u201d said Sgt. Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Jean, of Laval police public affairs. \u201cSome contractors did not have insurance policies or simply closed shop.\u201d <\/p>\n
Adopted in 1999, the regulation regarding snow removal by entrepreneurs in private driveways and alleys was implemented to guarantee that both contractor and client are protected in the event of an accident. <\/p>\n
Every snow removal contractor must now get an official sticker, at a cost of $100, and renewable every year. When registering for a permit, the contractor must provide valid, up-to-date insurance papers and the vehicle registration. This sticker must be placed in plain view on the windshield at all times. This guarantees the client that the contractor has sufficient insurance to cover the damage, in the event of a mishap that causes damage to a car, a house or worse, injures someone, <\/p>\n
