\u201cThe fire at the Chomedey Inn was apparently accidental,\u201d Laval Police Const. Franco di Genova said in an interview.<\/p>\n

Last week, The Suburban<\/i> reported that a blaze broke out at the iconic lodge in an unoccupied room at the northeast corner of the hotel during the afternoon of Nov. 21.<\/p>\n

Firefighters limited the fire to the room where it broke out, and no one was injured.
\n
<\/b>
\nMoomba assault<\/b><\/p>\n

\n
\nPolice were called to the popular Moomba dinner and dance club at 2:20 a.m., Nov. 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt one point, a 25-year-old man who was dancing with a young woman was hit on the left side of his neck,\u201d reported Const. di Genova. \u201cThe assailant had a glass in his hand, which broke with the force of the impact.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe victim suffered a 10 cm laceration on his neck, lost quite a bit of blood and was taken to the Sacr\u00e9 Coeur hospital for treatment,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe suspect, also 25, left the premises right away, but a police sergeant who was on patrol nearby spotted him soon afterward wearing a white shirt that was covered in blood. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated armed assault.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

\nSettling of accounts?<\/b><\/p>\n

A half-hour after police were called to Moomba, they also received a 911 call to Le Focus<\/i> bar at 1989 Highway 440 West.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeveral police cars were dispatched and the first constables to arrive found a 25-year-old man at the front door, who had been shot once in the knee, shattering his kneecap completely,\u201d said Const. di Genova.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n\u201cUrgences sant\u00e9 brought him to the Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9 superhospital, where he underwent surgery the following day to reconstruct the knee,\u201d he added. \u201cThe victim, who is known to police for his street gang connections, is not cooperating at all.\u201d <\/p>\n

Laval Police detectives are reviewing video from a number of surveillance cameras to learn more about the assault. <\/p>\n

Arrest ends break-in streak<\/b><\/p>\n

On Nov. 28, an alert citizen notified police after seeing two 17-year-olds attempting to break in to Souvenir Elementary School. <\/p>\n

\u201cPatrol officers caught, handcuffed and arrested one of them, who didn\u2019t see them arrive, atop the school awning, peering inside,\u201d said Const. di Genova. \u201cHis partner and two other officers came upon the other nearby, who fled on foot. He didn\u2019t get far, and was arrested in the back yard of a nearby house.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDuring interrogation, they both admitted to five break-ins at hockey arenas in Ste. Doroth\u00e9e, Chomedey and Sainte Rose districts,\u201d he said. \u201cIn all, they admitted to about a dozen break-ins at schools or arenas, where they were looking for loose cash lying around\u2014not goods.\u201d
