Dorval’s Omega Day Centre was treated to some renovations recently with the partnership of Volunteer West Island and Home Depot. <\/p>\n

The non-profit agency has been helping West Island residents with mental illness since 1986, with a focus on educational and social activities for adults, combating isolation and help with appropriate job placement. <\/p>\n

Home Depot’s association with the centre came about as part of the company’s foundation and the seventh annual Buy a Hammer, Build A Community<\/i> campaign, where all the funds necessary for tools and equipment are provided by the company. <\/p>\n

The human power to complete the renovation work was provided by Volunteer West Island and 18 intrepid volunteers took part in the daylong activity. Some of the work done for Omega Day Centre was the renovation of the centre’s front vestibule, an office and the bathrooms. Some painting was done and outside work has volunteers preparing the grounds for winter. The volunteers were coordinated by Steve Bookalam and Jane Clair. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe team members from Home Depot were the most amazing volunteers,” said Dawn Bostock, administrative assistant at Omega. “I can hardly find the words to describe how great they were!\u201d <\/p>\n

After the work was completed, the volunteers then prepared a meal for almost 50 people and plan to return next spring to plant a garden and flowers around the grounds. <\/p>\n

Omega Day Centre is located at 600 de l\u2019\u00c9glise in Dorval and can be reached at [514] 631-2760. Volunteer West Island can be reached at [514] 457-5445 and is located at 1 de l’\u00c9glise in Sainte Anne de Bellevue. <\/p>\n
