He was referring to getting a tenth victory when the non-profit company Renaissance launches its next challenge this spring to see how many residents of a municipality donate used goods and clothes to one of its drop-off centres.<\/p>\n
But until then, the city of Dorval celebrated its ninth consecutive victory for total collections per 1,000 residents. In all, Renaissance collected more than a million pounds of donated goods and clothes that would have been discarded entirely. <\/p>\n
Not only does the goods go towards a family that needs it, but Renaissance’s job program helps job seekers gain valuable retail experience to get back into the employment market.<\/p>\n
When asked why Dorval residents consistently give so much during the contest, Rouleau told The Suburban<\/i> that “lots of citizens living in Dorval are very pro-environment who like to help others. Another aspect I think is that the Renaissance store in our city is easy access for people and they provide great service.” <\/p>\n
“Dorval has supported us from the start,” said Renaissance CEO Pierre Legault after presenting another winning plaque to Rouleau last week at city hall. “The citizens are a tremendous example of helping others in need.” <\/p>\n
Legault expects new drop centres to open in the West Island with two new stores set up in Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Beaconsfield. Renaissance wants to work more with mortar and brick operations and get away from drop off boxes which are becoming too prevalent in the West Island. <\/p>\n
“Drop off boxes can get too busy and with many more companies doing it, especially some that are not as honest, we want to simplify the system for people. Our key to success is going to be donation centres,” said Legault. <\/p>\n
Legault is hoping other West Island cities will be open to having a donation centre in their territory. “Having a centre shows people that we are dependable and have been around for years,” noted the CEO. <\/p>\n
