Flu shots still available by appointment <\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

Despite the absences of colleagues at work from being sick or knowing a friend or family member who was afflicted over the holidays, flu season in the West Island this year is not being seen as “exceptional” according to the West Island Health and Social Services Centre (WIHSSC). <\/p>\n

“Influenza is present every year in Quebec and while it needs to be taken seriously, there is not an exceptional number of cases so far,” said WIHSSC spokesperson Sandrine Charpentier. <\/p>\n

In the pre-Christmas free flu shot service provided, Charpentier noted that there was a rise of 10 per cent in citizens taking advantage of the service meaning more West Islanders participated in the program than city of Montreal residents. <\/p>\n

Charpentier also explained that the flu season in the province is reaching its pinnacle and there should be less cases reported in the coming weeks. <\/p>\n

And for those who did not take part in the fall flu shots, an influenza shot is still available provided interested participants make an appointment by calling the Lac St. Louis CLSC at [514] 697-4110 or the Pierrefonds CLSC at [514] 626-2572. <\/p>\n

For those who are not terribly needle friendly, basic common sense preventions like frequenting washing your hands if you are in contact with lots of people like a teacher, retailer or parent and coughing into your elbow in lieu of releasing the aspirant to potential cold sufferers. <\/p>\n
