A private school that is in the process of building a new wing has opened its doors to the students of Dorval\u2019s Queen of Angels Academy, which announced last week that it plans to close its doors after the current academic year. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to welcome the whole school,\u201d Northstar Academy principal Jos\u00e9e P\u00e9pin told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview. \u201cWe want to help keep the entire student body together. It would really be their school within ours. They would be able to conserve what they have built and keep their mission, traditions and values, rather than be absorbed into another school.\u201d <\/p>\n

P\u00e9pin stressed that the Northstar, which is located beside the first Laval exit off Highway 13, is so close to most West Islanders that it takes only 12 minutes to drive there from the Fairview shopping centre. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really the tip of the West Island,\u201d she said, stressing the school\u2019s excellent highway connections. \u201cWe made the same offer to residents of Kahnawake. They can get here in 15 minutes. It\u2019s the same distance as any of the alternatives.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cSince the closure announcement, I have been receiving calls from many parents,\u201d P\u00e9pin added. \u201cTheir main concern is that the students get to stick together.\u201d <\/p>\n

P\u00e9pin said that the school will hold an information night, Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. <\/p>\n

\u201cSince we\u2019re already building a new wing, so we would just tailor it to measure for them,\u201d she said. \u201cWe will show the plans to them on Monday.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also prepared to meet the Queen of Angels Academy school committee on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, from now until September, to work out precisely what they want. <\/p>\n
