In accordance with the Montreal Metropolitan Community (CMM) charter, which makes it mandatory for Laval\u2019s mayor to join the CMM executive committee, the CMM council, voted to approve Laval Mayor Marc Demers for the prestigious role of vice-president of the council. In his new role, Mayor Demers will rub shoulders with CMM\u2019s president, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre. <\/p>\n

The number of city councillors from each municipality to sit on the CMM council is also predetermined by the charter, which allocates two of its 28 seats to Laval city councillors.<\/p>\n

Laval\u2019s executive committee chose Councillors St\u00e9phane Boyer (Pont Viau\u2013Duvernay) and Gilbert Dumas (Marc-Aur\u00e8le Fortin) to represent the city at the CMM round table. Boyer will also sit the CMM environment commission.<\/p>\n

The CMM was created in 2001 as a planning, coordination and funding body to gather the 82 Greater Montreal, South Shore and North Shore municipalities under a single banner. The CMM has jurisdiction over various fields such as land use, social housing, protection of green spaces, regional economic development and public transit.<\/p>\n
