Jean Rousselle opposes the McGill University Health Centre\u2019s push to get Laval residents to obtain their health care locally. <\/p>\n

\u201cI take a dim view of it,\u201d the MNA who represents Vimont riding in Quebec City told The Suburban<\/i> in an interview. \u201cYou have to have confidence in the doctor who\u2019s following your health.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rousselle said that he has been seeing his own doctor in Montreal for the past 15 years. <\/p>\n

\u201cI would be very unhappy if I instead was told I would have to go to the Cit\u00e9 de la sant\u00e9 <\/i>[superhospital in Laval],\u201d he said. \u201cIf something should ever turn up during my annual checkup, I want my doctor to follow up on it.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rousselle was unequivocal in his support for maintaining the status quo. Currently, the law permits Quebecers to seek medical treatment from whomever they choose, wherever they choose.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to be at ease with your physician,\u201d underscored Rousselle. \u201cAt one point, I myself have had the experience of losing confidence in one of my doctors and subsequently stopped seeing him.\u201d <\/p>\n

He said that he believes that Quebec\u2019s francophone and non-francophone population alike are united in preferring to retain freedom of choice in the delivery of health care services. <\/p>\n
