Montreal police officers hit the frigid water for Special Olympics<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

For people who like a little adventure in their fundraising, some of Montreal’s police officers will be taking an icy plunge into the frigid waters of Lac St. Louis for charity and are seeking others to take part. <\/p>\n

The Polar Bear Plunge is a charity event, raising funds for Quebec Special Olympics, an organization that the SPVM have supported over the years. <\/p>\n

Participants are asked to raise some funds before taking a quick dip into the water that is supervised with medical personnel and police divers. Marteal Mallette, Commander of Station 39 in Montr\u00e9al Nord, will be taking part once again this year at the dive taking place at the Pointe Claire marina. <\/p>\n

With the nearby warming tent, a warm blanket and beverage, “once you are out of the water, you feel good,” Mallette told The Suburban.<\/i> Being in the water is another matter since “you feel cold all over and your one instinct is to get out.” <\/p>\n

But Mallette sees the cold plunge as “a small gesture that is over in a few seconds. It takes some courage but nothing like the courage shown by the athletes in the Special Olympics, which is why close to 30 officers take part every year.” <\/p>\n

Sub zero swimming enthusiasts need to register on the Polar Bear Plunge website and the funds raised go towards supporting more than 5,000 Special Olympians throughout the province. <\/p>\n

The Polar Bear Plunge will take place Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Pointe Claire Marina, 1 Cartier Street in Pointe Claire. Registration will begin at noon at the intrepid plungers will take to the water from 1 to 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
