The Friends of Angrignon Park, the Douglas Research Institute and the Club Aquatique du Sud-Ouest<\/i> (CASO) are holding their second annual family ski and snowshoe day on Sunday, February 16 from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

They expect roughly 150 people to ski and snowshoe from Metro Angrignon to Douglas Hall. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe course is really set up for all different levels,\u201d said Angrignon Park friend V\u00e9ronique Landry. \u201cLast year, there were sportive people who did the trail twice. At the beginning when we took the photo, there were politicians who showed up to support us. At the end, there were beverages supplied by Douglas\u2014herbal tea, chocolate milk. We met a lot of new people, everyone had a chance to chat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volunteers will be handing out maps showing participants how to follow a route from 3 to 11 km long through Angrignon Park and the Douglas Research Institute with an additional portion to the Saint Lawrence River and back to Douglas Hall.<\/p>\n

\n
Police will be on hand to guide people safely across the busy La Verendrye and the not-so-hectic Champlain Boulevard. <\/p>\n

CASO has arranged for volunteers ski patrols and interpreters. The interpreters will be interspersed along the route to provide details about the natural beauty of the St. Lawrence lowlands and the ecological highlights on view that day. <\/p>\n

The activity is free, but the organizers are hoping that adults will contribute $5 each to cover the costs of posters, permits, guides, maps and drinks.<\/p>\n

They suggest that everyone bring warm clothes, a bottle of water and a lunch to enjoy during the closing ceremonies in Douglas Hall at 1 p.m. They\u2019ve also arranged for Douglas Hall to be open from 11:30 on so that families with young children or others who want to take a break will have a warm place to relax.<\/p>\n
