The cities of Dorval and Kirkland and the borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro will be extinguishing their municipal instillations this coming Saturday from 8:30-9:30 p.m. and are inviting citizens and businesses to dim their lights as well all as part of Earth Hour. <\/p>\n

The Earth Hour initiative began in Australia eight years ago, as a symbolic gesture to sensitize people to climate change. People are encouraged to turn off their electrical lights for an hour the evening of Saturday, March 28.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe city will turn off all non-essential lights in its facilities as it joins thousands of other cities around the world that will do the same on March 28,\u201d explained Dorval spokesperson S\u00e9bastien Gauthier. \u201cThe goal is to increase awareness about the importance of taking energy-saving actions as a way of fighting against global warming. <\/p>\n

\u201cLast year, hundreds of millions of people and thousands of businesses in some 7,000 cities in more than 162 countries turned off their lights for one hour as part of the event,\u201d Gauthier noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cI invite Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough\u2019s citizens to take part in the Earth Hour worldwide movement by making a representative gesture,\u201d noted Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis. \u201cTogether, we plunge into darkness to illustrate the importance of using our energy resources wisely.\u201d <\/p>\n

Besides shutting down municipal and public buildings\u2019 lights, the borough will also shut off the various electronic billboards during Earth Hour.
