Sheraton Laval to host the prestigious event<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n

The renowned Miss Canada and Miss Teen Canada beauty and personality contests will be held in Laval for the first time in the pageant history. Created as a bathing suit competition in 1946, the modernized and now more personality-based pageant will take place on March 1, at the Laval Sheraton Hotel.<\/p>\n

Contestants and judges from all over Canada will spend four days of activities throughout the city, culminating with the pageant show and the crowning of the winner. Long gone are the bathing suit parades and sexy poses. The newly revamped formula completely ditched the provocative aspects of the pageant, instead emphasizing participants\u2019 personalities and gifts for public speaking. The new guidelines preclude the contestants from wearing provocative attire, makeup or hairdos so as not to distract the judges from their personal qualities. Bathing suits are out, period.<\/p>\n

The pageant will highlight three different personality traits for each candidate through a personal discourse, a question that all participants must answer as well as a secret question. A production stage number will then close the contest portion of evening, culminating with the crowning of the winner. <\/p>\n

The judges are influential celebrities and business people from across Canada, who were selected to positively inspire the contestants.<\/p>\n

All 23 finalists are Canadian women aged 13-28. The lone contestant is from Laval, Donia Cherif, placed second in the last Miss Quebec pageant. She hopes to take the crown and use the opportunity to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease. Last year winner, Ines Gavran, opted to use her newfound fame to campaign against bullying. <\/p>\n
