Fundraising run, walkathon slated for May 25 <\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Laval Alzheimer\u2019s Society has been busy for the past year rebuilding its website<\/a>, and its new Internet look is slated to appear online next week, event coordinator Diane Tremblay told The Suburban. <\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been working on the new English website and revamping our French website as well,\u201d she said in an interview. \u201cThey will both be unveiled at the same time.\u201d <\/p>\n

As The Suburban<\/i> reported last year, the Laval Alzheimer\u2019s Society<\/a> was able to make the information at its disposal more readily available to English-speakers via the Internet, thanks to support by Laval\u2019s regional health authority, known as the Agence de sant\u00e9 et des services sociaux de Laval. <\/i><\/p>\n

In-home assessments introduced <\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also be offering new services, both in French and English,\u201d Tremblay said. \u201cHome visits.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cExperts will drop in at Alzheimer\u2019s victims\u2019 homes, assess their needs and determine how they can be helped,\u201d she explained. <\/p>\n

\u201cIn addition, one night a week English-speakers are invited to attend our coffee-chat evenings, where there will be English-speaking experts on hand, so they will be able to talk to them in the language of their choice,\u201d Tremblay continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have many Italian-speakers from the community as well who have come to join us,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

Tremblay also announced that this year Laval Alzheimer\u2019s Society plans to add a running event to its annual walkathon fundraiser, slated for Sunday, May 25.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone is so into running that in addition to the memory walk, this year for the first time we hold a memory run as well,\u201d she said. \u201cIt will be a real, professional run, with all that entails.\u201d<\/p>\n

The starting line venue has changed to Horizon high school in Ste. Rose this year, Tremblay said, after last year\u2019s cold and rain put a damper on an event that usually attracts up to 800 participants. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve arranged to conduct registration inside the gymnasium, in case of inclement weather,\u201d she said, \u201cwhich will permit us to accommodate 1,200 people.\u201d <\/p>\n

For the third year in a row, the Metro grocery chain will be contributing a free hot dog barbecue lunch in the school cafeteria, as well as beverages for participants. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also have clowns on hand for entertainment, as well as a few surprises,\u201d Tremblay enthused. <\/p>\n
