Commuter company pays $92 million for lines and infrastructure<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Almost eight million trips are recorded every year by riders along the Deux Montagnes AMT train line, half of the agency’s total yearly ridership, and now the AMT has acquired the line, access to the Mount Royal tunnel and all of the infrastructure connected to the line for $92 million.<\/p>\n

“This is excellent news for public transportation in the region, particularly since the purchase of the Deux Montagnes line will save money in the long run because there will be no more rental fees paid to CN,” said Nicolas Girard, AMT president. “Now that we own the line, we will be able to save $5.2 million every year, allowing us to provide better service to our clientele.” <\/p>\n

The line uses electrical energy for the trains which is part of the government’s objective to have 95 percent of the province’s public transportation using electric power by 2030.
