As part of a Montreal initiative enacted in 2008 entitled Fire Safety Cover Plan, the citizens of Pierrefonds-Roxboro have a new fire station located on Pierrefonds boulevard that was officially opened last week at a ribbon cutting ceremony with Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis, Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre and Anie Samson, executive committee member dealing with public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe location of this new fire station allows us to improve services to the citizens of the western portion of Pierrefonds, an area where several new residential developments have been built over the last few years,” said Samson. “It also serves to optimize our resources and provide more efficient coverage over a larger territory.” <\/p>\n

The new structure, entitled Fire Station 59, has been built to maximize efficiency using LEED technology that includes a geothermal heating system, effective use of windows to highlight natural lighting and a water retention system to collect rain water. <\/p>\n

Station 59 will also be equipped with a tanker and pumper truck as well as a ladder platform vehicle and its location is 18661 Pierrefonds Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Director of the Montreal Fire Department, Fran\u00e7ois Mass\u00e9, told the assembled that not only will the new station serve the citizens of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, “this fire station will also offer support to the responders of adjacent sectors such as the \u00cele Bizard\u2013Sainte Genevi\u00e8ve borough and the cities of Senneville, Sainte Anne de Bellevue and Kirkland.” <\/p>\n

The total cost of the new station was $7.6 million. <\/p>\n
