Kirkland Mayor Michel Gibson met with Liberal Nelligan riding candidate Martin Coiteux to reiterate the city\u2019s demand for the province to move forward with its commitment to have Highway 440 connect to Highway 40. <\/p>\n

The provincial government approved the project in 2012. However, Transport Minister Sylvain Gaudreault reneged on that commitment after Quebecers elected a Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois <\/i>government in September that year. <\/p>\n

Gibson seized the moment to make the project an election issue. <\/p>\n

The City of Kirkland also approved a resolution at its March meeting that the Montreal Agglomeration ratified last week. <\/p>\n

The wording matched a similar resolution that it passed in 2008, voicing its support for the plan to extend Highway 440 from Gouin to Highway 40, provided the province build an overpass that will connect the two thoroughfares. <\/p>\n

The new resolution contains one additional demand: that Kirkland be consulted in any discussions about the project between any of the affected cities, including Transport Quebec, Montreal and its Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping for better communication with Transport Quebec,\u201d Gibson explained, \u201cWe need to know what the plans are so that our residents are inconvenienced as little as possible.\u201d
