\u201cThis majority result sends a strong message to Quebec that together we will take part in the real issues,\u201d Robert Leit\u00e3o told a full house at his campaign offices Monday night. <\/p>\n

The newly elected MNA for Robert Baldwin took 87% of total voters\u2019 intentions, garnering 35,355 votes for a commanding defeat over the second place candidate, Coalition pour l’avenir du Qu\u00e9bec’s<\/i> Jamie Allen with 2,115 votes. The Parti qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois’<\/i> Michael Comtois-Lussier finished third with 3.75% of support from the riding.<\/p>\n

The economist, whom Bloomberg News voted the second best in the world in 2008, calmly told his supporters at 8:30 p.m. that the Liberals had secured the election.<\/p>\n

Leit\u00e3o was not overly surprised by his victory \u201cin this traditionally federalist riding, and now we can get on with real issues and not divisive politics like we have seen for the past 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nBesides working on transportation and health care issues that affect all West Island residents, the newly elected MNA wants to tackle \u201cdiscrimination issues for some of the lower income earners in Pierrefonds-Roxboro,\u201d Leit\u00e3o told The Suburban.<\/i> \u201cFor some of the new arrivals to this country and province, they face discrimination when seeking employment.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if he expected to be named Minister of Finance, Leit\u00e3o answered that \u201cmy boss, Premier Philippe Couillard will make that decision and I look forward to helping the party in any way I can.\u201d
