{"id":1145,"date":"2014-04-09T16:05:00","date_gmt":"2014-04-09T16:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rf.podcastfixit.com\/index.php\/2014\/04\/09\/bmw-laval-unveils-electric-cars-to-mark\/"},"modified":"2015-06-01T19:41:13","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T19:41:13","slug":"bmw-laval-unveils-electric-cars-to-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newscoverage.org\/index.php\/2014\/04\/09\/bmw-laval-unveils-electric-cars-to-mark\/","title":{"rendered":"BMW Laval unveils electric cars to mark 40th anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>By Robert Frank<\/b><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesuburban.com\/\">www.thesuburban.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s largest BMW dealership pulled out all the stops last week to showcase the Bavarian automakers\u2019 latest technology. <\/p>\n<p>BMW Laval took the wraps off its new carbon-fiber i3 electric car and the its slick i8 hybrid sports car during its 40th anniversary festivities, April 1. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe celebration attracted some 2,000 people,\u201d smiled owner Massimo d\u2019Argenio. \u201cThey were delighted by Sugar Sammy, who put on a private performance for them, as well as three Canadian Olympic medalists: Charles Hamelin and Mika\u00ebl Kingsbury, who had just returned from the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia; and Marianne St. Gelais, who earned her medal during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Though battery powered, the nimble carbon-fibre framed i3 that BMW Laval unveiled is capable of putting its gas-powered competitors to shame when leaving a stoplight. It\u2019s capable of accelerating from a standing start to 100 km\/h in just 7.2 seconds. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe i3 is available right now, but supply is very limited,\u201d d\u2019Argenio told <i>The Suburban<\/i> in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been tremendous interest and we\u2019re selling a lot of them. So many people want to switch to the new, electric car technology that we have pretty much already presold our entire allocation of i3 cars for the year.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>He added that the i8 sports car is already sold out for the year, despite its price tag of upward of $140,000.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Argenio said that his grandfather started the dealership on St. Martin boulevard in 1973, where it remained until its success prompted its move to its huge, 150,000 square foot premises on Chomedey boulevard in 2000. <\/p>\n<p>He said that the firm has thrived thanks to its propensity to regard customers like family. <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n\u201cPeople enjoy the personalized service,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re just easy to talk to.
